Flowers are in full bloom, the leaves of my Japanese Parasol tree are beginning to canopy across my backyard, the sounds of birds chirping wake me in the morning. It’s official: it’s spring time! This winter has felt especially long, cold and very introspective. It feels really refreshing to move from the cycle of winter which in many ways feels like a cycle of death for me into the cycle of spring filled with life and harmony. In nature, especially in the springtime, we can see harmony at just about every turn. To me, it is so beautiful to move from the coldest, darkest season to one that brings new life, creativity, balance and light to the forefront. Most humans are in one way or another looking to be more balanced, lead a more balanced life or have more balanced relationships, what better time than spring to really look at balance and notice where in our own lives it is lacking. Nature is the best representation of perfect balance that exists and most of us are very much removed from moments in nature that serve our path on this planet.
Being balanced has many different layers to it which we can explore. Yet, those of you who know me understand my fascination with masculine and feminine energy; I truly feel that to be fully integrated as a human it’s important to give heed to our own masculine and feminine energies. If we disregard these energies I feel that we bring about a lot of additional grief and suffering. As I’ve been venturing into nature more often lately, I can’t help but notice the way the masculine and feminine energies play out everywhere I look. Most obvious, mother earth and father sky but looking deeper we can witness the trees budding, flowers blooming, even water is abundant and flowing as it rarely is here in Texas. All of which are examples of how we are surrounded by the gifts of the feminine essence. Masculine energies comprise of rocky shores that contain the water; the buzz of the bees and the beautiful butterflies; their keen ability to pollinate the flowers. As well as the warmth and intensity of the sun all demonstrate the masculine energies. It’s beautiful to see the intricacies in nature and the harmoniousness that occurs. These synchronicities this season spoke to me on a whole new level and again it is just more proof of our interconnectedness and Oneness. Just as we see these energies play out in nature, we contain these energies within ourselves.
Balancing our masculine and feminine energies is one of the greatest tools to assist us in leading a fulfilling life in which we manifest everything we desire. Just like in nature, we can find this ease, balance and harmony when we move into this understanding. Simply put, I am a woman with both energies within me. We all have both masculine and feminine energies, remembering that energy is not gender or sex based. Most of us can start to notice people where one energy is more dominant over the other; after all, it tends to be easier to see this in others than in ourselves. Our culture applauds the masculine nature of things so it makes sense that many women would begin to shift their natural tendency and sense of self towards the masculine realm of being. Masculine energy is oriented around more doing, it’s directed and focused action and it honors practicality. A woman living in her masculine could do so because perhaps it feels safer, there isn’t the fear of exploitation or objectification and without a doubt there is an independent power that goes hand in hand with this masculine mindset which makes it appealing for many as well. The problem begins to emerge when these traits become a blueprint for who we are and we don’t move into every situation with fresh eyes. Feminine energy flows, it doesn’t lead it invites, it moves slowly but with intention. Feminine energy doesn’t force or manipulate, it allows things and events to unfold organically. It trusts fully. This is the feminine essence that resides in every single one of us. Understand that it’s not just women who can become out of balance energetically; there are also plenty of men who struggle to own their full masculine energy. This could be due to a lack of positive masculine role models or mentors, perhaps the high number of boys being raised by single mothers or misunderstandings around what it means to actually be a man. Masculine energy is direct, purposeful, strong and focused. It is also not uncommon for men and women to become unbalanced by having too much of the same sex energy as well (just look at the typical 50’s marriage). It’s truly about the combination of both these energies and when both energies are working in balance magic happens. Integration creates individuals who can stand up to life in a purposeful way that is meaningful and authentically grounded in our hearts and based on connection. This is wholeness.
Needless to say, truthfully showing up and looking at where you are out of balance is a gift. We can then use this awareness to start to shift small things that bring us back into balance. We can do this with foods we eat, our daily routines, our physical appearance and by even altering certain aspects of our lifestyle. If we admit that we are out of balance we can start to shift back into harmony. Let your surroundings this spring be a reflection of your pureness and wholeness. Own your true nature!
